When Others Hurt Us — Video Devotion
Do you ever wonder why some people act the way they do? Or how people can inflict pain on others so effortlessly? With vengeance even?

Have you ever heard the old phrase “misery loves company”? It can be true. Hurting others can become a defense mechanism for some. When they feel pain or are wronged, they can cause others to feel the same way. They may hope two wrongs make a right—that the one who hurt them should experience the same level of pain. For some, it can become a vicious cycle that’s difficult to break. But it’s a delusion to think someone else’s pain could truly relieve yours.

Have you ever hurt someone for hurting you? Gotten back at them? And then felt even worse afterwards?

Romans 12 says Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.

So how do you silence the desire for vengeance? Turn to God. Pray. Spend time in the Word. Arm your spirit with Truth. Revenge won’t give you lasting relief or provide healing or true happiness. No matter how it may seem. Only a relationship with God can provide these things.

The next time someone hurts you, resist the urge to repay evil with evil as you learn to live Wholly Loved.
